Il settore dell’insegnamento in generale e in particolare quello delle lingue online si basa sulla comunicazione tra il docente e l’alunno. Per molti anni la comunicazione è stata diretta, ossia il docente e gli studenti si trovavano nella stessa aula senza distanze di alcun tipo. Tuttavia, le esigenze della società sono cambiate. Prima di tutto, il crescente sviluppo della tecnologia apre nuove porte all’insegnamento delle lingue; in secondo luogo, la trasformazione radicale che ha generato il COVID-19 nel mondo ha modificato drasticamente le nostre abitudini. Tutto ciò ha portato a una maggiore flessibilità, grazie alla quale è possibile imparare le lingue indipendentemente dal luogo in cui ci si trova.
Finora le nostre lezioni di inglese online si basavano sull’uso di un software per videoconferenze (Zoom o Skype™), una webcam integrata nel computer e una lavagna interattiva, che permette di svolgere attività dinamiche e coinvolgenti. Tuttavia, questa modalità di insegnamento presentava dei limiti, come ad esempio l’abbandono totale dei tradizionali libri di testo.
Noi di Blablalang abbiamo avuto l’opportunità di usare la telecamera e visualizzatore di documenti HUE HD Pro per lo svolgimento delle nostre lezioni di inglese online e vogliamo raccontarti la nostra esperienza.
Braccio flessibile
Quello che ci ha colpito fin da subito della webcam è il suo braccio flessibile. Si tratta di una caratteristica che apporta una grande versatilità e che permette un salto qualitativo. La telecamara tradizionali sono disegnate per inquadrare esclusivamente il docente, invece con la HUE HD Pro è possibile inquadrare il materiale didattico delle lezioni di lingue online. In questo modo i professori non devono rinunciare ad usare i loro libri di testo e possono condividere le informazioni con gli alunni. Inoltre nei corsi di inglese per bambini, i docenti possono usare anche giochi, disegni o puzzle per rendere le lezioni ancora più dinamiche.
Messa a fuoco manuale
La HUE HD Pro è dotata di una messa a fuoco manuale, molto utile per lo svolgimento delle lezioni di lingue online, dato che può essere utilizzata per mettere a fuoco immagini o esercizi di grammatica. Con la messa a fuoco automatica delle telecamara presenti sul mercato è praticamente impossibile ottenere un’immagine nitida, a causa della vicinanza tra la camara e il testo. Con la messa a fuoco manuale della HUE HD Pro questo problema viene risolto.
Luce
La telecamara ha anche luci a LED integrate, molto utile per le lezioni notturne. Infatti l’illuminazione della HUE HD Pro permette una corretta visione dei testi, dato che non viene proiettata l’ombra della telecamara, e una migliore riproduzione dei colori.
Struttura solida
Un altro vantaggio della HUE HD Pro è la sua struttura solida, che offre una grande stabilità grazie alla quale l’immagine non si muove al minimo movimento del docente. È possibile girarla con una sola mano e dà una sensazione di sicurezza, essendo altamente improbabile che possa cadere o spostarsi durante le lezioni.
Funzione scanner
Anche la funzione scanner è molto utile, dato che permette di sostituire i grandi scanner e risparmiare spazio. Inoltre il risparmio di tempo è significativo, dato che con un solo clic è possibile ottenere uno screenshot del documento e condividerlo con lo studente.
Intervallo di foto
Questa opzione permette di ottenere delle foto ad intervalli regolari per tutta la durata della lezione. Il docente può scegliere la durata dell’intervallo tra una foto all’altra, che si realizza in modo totalmente automatico. Ciò permette al professore di risparmiare tempo e concentrarsi sulla lezione senza alcuna distrazione, dato che le foto vengono scattate senza bisogno del suo intervento. Alla fine della lezione l’insegnante può condividere tutte le foto con l’alunno in modo che quest’ultimo abbia un registro completo della lezione e possa ripassare gli argomenti svolti in vista della lezione successiva.
Inoltre è possibile impostare l’intervallo di foto in base al movimento, di modo che quando il docente gira una pagina del libro, automaticamente viene scattata una foto.
Registrazione di video
È inoltre possibile registrare video e salvarli nel pc o inviarli via email. Questa funzione è estremamente utile, dato che il docente può registrare le lezioni e inviarle all’alunno. In questo modo lo studente può rivedere le lezioni tutte le volte che vuole, potendo così risolvere eventuali dubbi o ripassare gli argomenti svolti con il docente.
Opinione dei docenti
I docenti di Blablalang che hanno avuto l’opportunità di utilizzare la visualizzatore di documenti HUE HD Pro per le lezioni di inglese online hanno sottolineato la versatilità della camara, che permette di svolgere lezioni dinamiche e interattive, senza rinunciare per questo ai tradizionali libri di grammatica. Inoltre ritengono che lo scanner renda molto più veloce la fase di preparazione delle lezioni online.
Opinione degli alunni
Anche gli alunni della nostra scuola hanno riconosciuto i numerosi vantaggi della HUE HD Pro, dato che possono continuare a usare i libri di testo e mostrare all’insegnante gli esercizi svolti inquadrando semplicemente il libro. Questo risparmio di tempo permette agli alunni di dedicare un tempo maggiore all’apprendimento, dato che non devono preoccuparsi di inviare gli esercizi al docente affinché li corregga.
Conclusione
Per tutti i motivi elencati sopra, possiamo dire di ritenerci totalmente soddisfatti della nostra esperienza con la telecamera e visualizzatore di documenti HUE HD Pro, dato che permette di mantenere un legame tra il materiale didattico cartaceo e le nuove tecnologie.
Advantages of the HUE visualiser for online teaching
The teaching sector in general, and online language teaching in our case, is based on communication between the teacher and the pupil. For many years communication was direct, i.e. the teacher and the students were in the same classroom with no distance between them. However, society’s needs have changed. First of all, advances in technology have opened new doors for language teaching. Secondly, the radical changes needed around the world as a result of COVID-19 have drastically changed the way we do things. As a result we have more flexibility, and it is now possible to learn a language irrespective of where you are based.
Until recently, our online English lessons were based on using video conferencing software (Zoom or Skype™), the computer’s integrated webcam and an interactive whiteboard, which allows for dynamic and engaging activities. However, this teaching method had its limitations, such as the total abandonment of traditional textbooks.
At Blablalang we have had the opportunity to test the HUE HD Pro document camera and visualiser for our online English lessons. We want to tell you about our experience.
Flexible arm
What immediately struck us about this camera is its flexible arm. This is a feature that brings great versatility and allows a qualitative leap. Integrated cameras are designed to face towards the teacher, while the HUE HD Pro allows you to point the camera down onto whatever teaching material we use in our online language lessons. Teaching this way means that we don’t have to give up using traditional textbooks as we can still share the information with pupils. In addition, teachers can use games, drawings and puzzles in English lessons for children, making them even more dynamic.
Manual focus
The HUE HD Pro is equipped with a manual focus, which is very useful for conducting language lessons online, as it can be used to show images or grammar exercises. Some other cameras on the market have an automatic focus but we found it makes it practically impossible to obtain a sharp image, as the camera has to be so close to the text. The HUE HD Pro doesn’t have this problem because of its manual focus.
Lights
The camera also has built-in LED lights, which is very useful when holding classes in the evening. In fact, the HUE HD Pro’s lighting means it is easy to read text documents as there is no shadow cast, and colours are seen more clearly.
Solid structure
Another advantage of the HUE HD Pro is its solid, sturdy construction meaning that the image does not move at the slightest touch of the teacher. It can be moved with one hand and feels stable, making it very unlikely to fall over or be knocked during the class.
Scanner function
The scanner function is also very useful as it allows you to replace large scanners and save space. In addition, you can save a lot of time by taking a screenshot of a document with just one click, then sharing it with the student if required.
Image capture
This option allows you to take photos on a timer at regular intervals throughout the lesson. The teacher can set the interval delay between one photo and the next, which then happens completely automatically. This saves the teacher a lot of time allowing him/her to concentrate on the lesson without having to stop and take photos, as they are taken without any input from the teacher. At the end of the lesson, the teacher can share all the photos with the student so that they have a complete record of the lesson and can review the topics to be covered next time.
It is also possible to set the photos to be taken when any movement is detected so that when the teacher turns a page of the book, a photo is automatically taken.
Video recording
You can also record videos and save them on your PC or send them via email. This function is extremely useful, since the teacher can record the lessons and send them to the student. In this way, students can review the lessons as many times as they want, and are therefore able to resolve any misunderstandings and review the topics discussed with the teacher.
Opinion of teachers
Those Blablalang teachers who had the chance to use the HUE HD Pro document visualiser for online English lessons stressed the versatility of the camera. It enabled their lessons to be more dynamic and interactive and they were still able to use traditional text and grammar books. They also liked how the scanner function makes preparing online lessons much faster.
Opinion of the pupils
The pupils of our school have also recognized the many advantages of the HUE HD Pro since they can continue to use the textbooks and show the teacher the exercises completed by simply pointing the camera at the book. This saves students a lot of time, which they can then devote to learning since they do not have to worry about sending the exercises to the teacher for correction.
Conclusion
For all the reasons listed above, we can say that we are totally satisfied with our experience with the HUE HD Pro camera and document viewer, as it allows us to maintain a link between printed educational material and new technologies.
