Odyssey of the Mind: Fostering Creative Thinking
Time-lapse is a technique used in film-making to record processes that take place over a longer period of time. How this technique works is that you set the camera to take pictures at a set interval for a period of time and then play the photographs back at a certain frame rate. For example, you can make a time-lapse video of the sun rising by taking a photograph every minute and than playing the movie at the speed of 15 frames per second. This way, you can accelerate the process; time will appear to go faster.
This video shows how a process that takes 24 hours can be shortened into a 20 second clip. All you need to do is to take lots of photographs from the same camera angle over a certain time and then play them back in the software at the frame rate you chose. In the HUE Animation software, you can play your time-lapse videos back as quickly as 30 frames per second.
You can use the time-lapse feature in the HUE Animation software not just to watch slow changes such as plants growing or the sun rising; you can also use it to illustrate the making of something. You can photo-document and make time-lapse videos of almost anything: how you built that big snow man in your back yard, how you baked that amazing cake based on grandma’s recipe, or, like we did in this video, how to carve that perfect Halloween pumpkin. By taking lots of stills, you can easily make short time-lapse videos showing how something changes over a longer period of time.
If you are one of the lucky people with a special talent such as drawing, graffiti painting, etc. you can photograph the creative process and make a time-lapse video of it such as this one.
