Have you seen the new movie, The Boxtrolls? We haven’t yet, but it definitely looks interesting. Why? Well, partially because the animators used 3D printing technology to allow them to incorporate more detail and precision into this animated stop motion world.
We came across this article a few days ago. It’s an interview with Travis Knight, studio Laika’s CEO and animator. Definitely worth a read! Did you know that professional animators produce about four seconds of usable footage a week? Yes, four seconds! The Boxtrolls is 96 minutes long. It’s better not to calculate how much work was put into it… It must be that creating stop motion animation is so interesting and exciting that it makes the time fly by!
A group of Into Film reporters recently interviewed the producer of The Boxtrolls. You can watch the interview here, and they also did an animation masterclass with BAFTA winner Emma Lazenby. In this short video they explain the most important things to remember when creating your own animations.
