Je travaille dans l’informatique depuis plus de 20 ans en tant que développeur, chef de projet technique, expert en développement mobile, CTO (directeur technique), Product Manager, speaker.

Il y a quelques années j’ai eu la chance de croiser une collègue (Mariana) qui m’a parlé des sketchnotes, de la facilitation graphique ou encore de la communication visuelle.

J’avais déjà vu des exemples de travaux de facilitateurs graphiques « pro » et ça me semblait complètement inaccessible, mais elle a su me transmettre les bases via un petit atelier.

Avec ces quelques bases, un crayon et un carnet, j’ai pu tester la prise de note mêlant textes et dessins en conférence et ça a été pour moi une révélation : j’étais beaucoup plus concentré et enfin j’arrivais à suivre une conférence de 50′. En plus j’avais un résumé synthétique directement exploitable pour faire un retour à mes collègues et je me rappelais de beaucoup de choses !

Par la suite j’ai beaucoup pratiqué, acheté des crayons de couleurs et même investi dans un iPad Pro avec stylet.

Depuis quelques années, j’interviens en tant que speaker dans des conférences techniques. Avec un ami, Noël Macé, nous avons eu l’idée de proposer un format de conférence différent ou il raconte l’histoire des navigateurs Web (il s’était énormément documenté sur ce sujet) et ou je dessine en live le support visuel.

Je souhaitais avoir un effet « low tech » avec l’utilisation de papier et crayon pour me rapprocher du public.

N’étant pas professionnel et les conférences tech n’étant généralement pas rémunérées, j’ai souhaité un investissement à un tarif raisonnable et je suis tombé sur la HUE HD Pro qui avait de très bons avis. C’était un très bon choix : la petite caméra est transportable, robuste et ne m’a jamais fait défaut. C’était le début d’une aventure qui nous a fait parcourir toute la France et même pousser jusqu’à Londres et Rotterdam.

Lors d’une autre conférence, j’ai pu réutiliser la caméra pour montrer un montage électronique et mécanique en action.

La encore la caméra HUE HD Pro a très bien fonctionné et le focus réglable est très pratique !

Aujourd’hui je ne suis toujours pas un facilitateur graphique professionnel, mais j’ai intégré ces techniques dans ma boite à outil au travail et je fais bien plus que des sketchnotes en conférence : je prends aussi des notes dans certaines réunions qui s’y prêtent (sur des sujets de design ou d’organisation par exemple), je l’utilise au tableau lors des ateliers d’architecture ou produit, j’ai eu aussi l’occasion de mettre en forme un résumé illustré pour aider à la prise de décision sur un sujet métier (très efficace). Et comme j’aime bien partager toutes ces expériences, j’en ai aussi parlé à une conférence!

I’ve been working in IT for over 20 years as a developer, technical project manager, mobile development expert, CTO (technical director), product manager, speaker etc.

A few years ago I was lucky enough to bump into a colleague (Mariana) who told me about sketchnotes, graphic facilitation and visual communication.

I’d already seen examples of the work of ‘professional’ graphic facilitators and it seemed completely inaccessible to me, but she was able to teach me the basics in a little workshop.

With a few basics, a pencil and a notebook, I was able to try out note-taking combining text and drawings at a conference and it was a revelation for me: I was much more focused and at last I was able to follow a 50-minute presentation. What’s more, I had a summary that I could use straight away to give feedback to my colleagues and I remembered a lot of things!

Afterwards I practised a lot, bought some coloured pencils and even invested in an iPad Pro with a stylus.

Grab a sheet of paper and some pencils and off you go!

I’ve been speaking at technical conferences for a few years now. With a friend, Noël Macé, we came up with the idea of offering a different conference format in which he would recount the history of Web browsers (he had done a lot of research on the subject) and I would draw the visual support live.

I wanted to have a ‘low tech’ effect, using paper and pencil to get closer to the audience.

As I’m not a professional and tech conferences aren’t generally paid, I wanted to invest in something at a reasonable price and I came across the HUE HD Pro document camera, which had some very good reviews. It was a very good choice: the little camera is portable, robust and has never let me down.

It was the start of an adventure that took us all over France and even as far as London and Rotterdam.

At another conference, I was able to reuse the camera to show an electronic and mechanical assembly in action.

Once again, the HUE HD Pro camera worked very well and the adjustable focus is very practical!

Today, I’m still not a professional graphic facilitator, but I’ve integrated these techniques into my toolbox at work and I do a lot more than just sketch at conferences: I also take notes in certain meetings that lend themselves to it (on design or organisation subjects for example), I use it on the blackboard during architecture or product workshops, and I’ve also had the opportunity to format an illustrated summary to help with decision-making on a business subject (very effective). And because I love sharing all these experiences, I’ve also spoken about it at a conference!
