Here’s an example of how you can use ordinary everyday items from a classroom to make an animated movie. Amelia (10) came up with the idea of telling the story of sea life using just what she found nearby (with a few extras thrown in by her mum!).

A sponge was used to give the impression of a coral reef. This was sponge that you can buy in most chemists but sliced thinly with a knife. The background was just blue paper but the light catching it in different ways added to whole feeling of movement. Also a clever idea was using the bubbles going up the picture whilst most of the sea creatures are moving across.

The pictures were taken by positioning the HUE camera above the “stage” which meant characters could easily be moved across the frame.

We especially liked the shoal of paperclips, sharpener fish, the hungry stapler and the protractor jellyfish!
