Full STEAM ahead on the STEM bus

Guest post written by Ashley Faulkner, @Frizzle_of_FCPS.

Ashley Faulkner and Josh Rayburn are STEM Learning Coaches for Fayette County Public Schools in Lexington, Kentucky. Part of their job is teaching elementary school students on the STEM Bus while the other part is teaching educators how to bring STEM into their classrooms.

The HUE HD Pro visualizer is an easy to use, multi-purpose camera. The flexible neck allows you to get the perfect picture. The base with long cord allows for placing it in different spots and the focus lens allows to clarify the image for a crystal clear product. Our favorite go-to camera for creating stop motion videos.

One of the most popular units chosen by schools is the Designing for Disaster unit. Within that, students use HUE cameras to create stop motion PSAs about earthquake preparedness. We utilized a site called Storyboard That! to print the background scenes, characters, and props, then cut with a Cricut and laminated them.

Students upload their videos to Flipgrid and have a watch party with their peers. In addition to the STEM Bus, Ashley and Josh train teachers on how to use HUE in their classrooms.

By purchasing an additional 27 cameras for their district, Ashley and Josh have been able to build a lending library where teachers can check out a class set to use with their students.

They have run local and statewide trainings about the power of stop motion to engage learners and demonstrate learnings, all featuring the great and affordable HUE.
